Dysto, designed by Swim Type, is a fusion of futuristic dreams and retro design. Crafted from the visual language of 1980s sci-fi films, it features monospaced architecture, modular construction and reverse contrast strokes — now with dynamic variable and opentype capabilities.
The type family has three axes of modification, offering six widths with three weights and slanted variations — providing a uniform aesthetic, with adaptability upgrades. Featuring the latest in typeface technology, it includes six stylistic sets, extensive ligatures, and contextual alternates for optimal spacing.
Dysto has been designed for real-world uses in unreal worlds. It’s vertically typeable, making it suitable for large neon signs on Third Millennium satellite hotels. The interplay of robust horizontals, streamlined verticals, and rhythmic curves will supercharge the speed of any space fleet. Its impact and weight are made for holographic advertising and augmented environments. It’s bold enough for the latest outer space outerwear and its 22.5 degree slant pushes further than others dare to venture. Its modular forms and directly proportionate widths are built for liquid crystal utility displays and in-helmet alerts. And its iconic character belongs on a sticker on the underside of every hoverboard.
